UPCAT 2027: Complete Guide to Requirements, Schedule, and Registration

Who can take the UPCAT, the forms and documents you need, the full timeline, how campus and degree choices work, and what it actually costs to apply.

If you’re a Grade 11 or 12 student planning to take the UPCAT, the hardest part often isn’t the exam itself — it’s the paperwork and the timeline around it. Registration opens and closes on fixed dates, the forms come in a specific order, and missing one step can cost you a whole year. Here’s how the process actually works, using the UPCAT 2027 cycle (for Academic Year 2027–2028) as a concrete example, so you know exactly what to expect and when.

Who Can Take the UPCAT

The UPCAT is for students entering their first year of college who haven’t been to college yet. For UPCAT 2027, that meant Grade 11 students in School Year 2025–2026 who are expected to graduate from senior high school, along with Grade 12 students who had not taken the UPCAT in a previous cycle.

To stay eligible, you generally must not have taken any college or post-secondary coursework, must not have taken the UPCAT before, and must not have had a UP college application processed during a year when no UPCAT was held. In short, it’s a one-time exam meant for genuine incoming freshmen.

Eligibility wording is updated each cycle. Always confirm the current rules on the official UP Office of Admissions portal before assuming you qualify — especially if your situation is unusual (transferee, ALS completer, or a gap year).

The Forms and Documents You’ll Need

The whole application runs through UP’s official online portal (for the 2027 cycle, that was upcat2027online.up.edu.ph). It’s built around a handful of forms, and it helps to know who is responsible for each:

You’ll also upload a photo and an electronic signature to the portal. Follow the portal’s current specifications for these — photo requirements do change from year to year, so don’t reuse an old file without checking.

Scan or photograph all your documents before registration opens. Many applicants lose time scrambling for a clear shot of their SF-10 or a correctly sized photo on the day the portal goes live — and the portal can be slow under heavy traffic in the first few hours.

The UPCAT 2027 Timeline

Exact dates shift every year, but the cycle always follows the same shape. Here is how the UPCAT 2027 schedule was laid out:

Notice the order: you register and sit the exam first, then submit your detailed grades afterward. The one truly unforgiving step is Form 1 — there is no late registration, so if you miss that window, you wait for the next cycle.

Set calendar reminders for each stage. UP announces the next cycle’s exact dates through the Office of Admissions’ official channels, usually early in the year, and doesn’t send loud individual reminders for later steps like test-permit release.

Choosing Your Campus and Degree Program

When you apply, you choose your UP campus and degree program preferences. Some programs are offered at only one campus (for example, BS Nursing or BA Filipino) while others exist at several (like BS Statistics or Fine Arts), so your campus choice and your course choice are linked — decide them together.

A successful applicant is offered admission to only one of their campus choices. If you qualify for UP but not for your first-choice program or campus, the portal gives you access to the DIWA Portal, which lists the degree programs and campuses that still have open slots and that you’re eligible to apply to. That’s effectively a second chance to land a spot — which is why passing the UPCAT is worth it even if you don’t get your top pick right away.

Base your first choice on your actual practice-exam performance, not on where your friends are applying. And make your second choice a program you’d genuinely be happy to attend — not a throwaway.

Do You Have to Pay to Apply?

For Filipino applicants, there is no UPCAT application fee. Only non-Filipino citizens pay — ₱450 for foreign residents and USD 50 for non-residents. And if you qualify and enroll, tuition and miscellaneous fees at UP are free for eligible students under the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act (RA 10931). Cost, in other words, should never be the reason you skip applying.

After You Apply and On Exam Day

Keep every confirmation email and your portal login somewhere safe — you’ll need them to download your test permit and, later, to check your results. On exam day, bring your printed test permit and a valid school or government-issued ID. Your permit shows your assigned test center and session, so plan your travel and what time you need to leave the night before.

The Bottom Line

The UPCAT rewards students who get organized early: watch for the registration window, submit Form 1 on time, and have your SF-10 and photo ready before the portal opens. Remember that Form 2B and your grades come after the exam, that applying is free for Filipino students, and that even a “qualified but not to my first choice” result opens the DIWA Portal. Once the paperwork is handled, all your remaining energy can go where it matters most — preparing for the test itself.

While you wait for exam day, this is the ideal time to start a structured review. Iskolar Exams’ practice questions and your Stats page help you see which subjects need the most attention before the UPCAT arrives.
